June 27 Intro

Over the past month the clerics of the order of Mielikki based out of Starmantle have been in a dire situation. As the body that harvests the resin of the Gulthmerie High Pyrus Tree they’ve been encountering bands of Kobolds that have been attacking and killing clerics as they harvest. So far 14 clerics have been killed and the remainder of the order refuses to return to the forest.

June 27 Character Intros

Umli (Steve):

For the last three weeks you’ve been at sea sailing from Hillsfar on the Moonsea south into the Sea of Fallen stars and then west towards Westgate to seek work. You garnered passage on the Shuragh Sinak by offering your services in the defense of potential pirate attacks. A hundred miles out of Westgate as you entered the Inner Sea a passing ship signalled the Sinak that there was a trade blockade preventing any passage into Westgate. The blockade is inevitably related to the current cold war going on between Turmish and Sembia. Neither side has engaged in any military campaigns yet but trade blockades such as this seem more and more common.

The Sinak circled back and made port at the trading town of Starmantle on the eastern end of the starmantle bay. You’ve been in Starmantle for 3 days now gathering information on alternative methods to cover the 150 miles to Westgate. You’ve been staying at the Hand Over Fist down by the docks.

Jacob (Jacob) :

With the recent problems in the forest of Gulthmere Father Huk asked you a week ago to take the coastal trail to Starmantle and find out more information on this plague of attacks and what’s being done to stop it. If the northerm Gulthmere forest is being overrun it’s only a matter of time before the marauders reach Gulthmere itself. You reached Starmantle 3 days ago and have been staying at the Hand Over Fist down by the docks.

Serena (Megan) :

Your mentor has asked you to go to Starmantle on the southern coast of the Inner Sea to aquire a tankard of Gulthmerie High Pyrus resin for use in a new spell she’s researching. Over the past month access to the resin has become scarse as Starmantle has begun experiencing problems choking the trade of the resin.

With this you set out a week ago by ship from Selgaunt south towards Starmantle. While sailing south you saw a trade blockade to the west, inevitably related to the current cold war going on between Turmish and Sembia. Neither side has engaged in any military campaigns yet but trade blockades such as this seem more and more common.

You arrived in Starmantle 2 days ago and have found the problem to be much worse than your master had realized. You’ve been staying at the Hand Over Fist down by the docks.

Perithil (Ivan) :

Over the past few weeks in Westgate you’ve found yourself hanging out with Kauko more regularly. You happened upon each other on the Trader’s Road into Westgate. She plays a mean friction drum and here performances often draw a crowd which you always find ways of taking advantage of. She’s a deft musician you’re hoping to start playing together.

With the recent trade blockade in the Inner Sea, less goods are moving through Westgate. With fewer goods come fewer opporunities to eek out a living. You two have decided to move on and try to find fortune elsewhere. A week ago you headed out of Westgate along the coastal path to Starmantle to the east. There’s word that the clerics of Starmantle are having trouble harvesting the highly valuable Gulthmerie High Pyrus resin. It seems like a ripe opporunity to take advantage of the situation and make some money. You reached Starmantle 2 days ago and have been staying at the Hand Over Fist down by the docks.

Kauko (Kris) :

Having arrived in Westgate a month ago, you’ve found yourself over the past few weeks hanging out with Perithil more regularly. He’s a great card player and an enjoyable conversationalist. You oddly trust him considering how untrustworthy he seems to be. He enjoys your music and you’ve talked about forming a band.

Elden (Adam) :

Upon hearing of the trouble in Starmantle you’ve decided to hire passage by ship to investigate and help. You reached Starmantle 3 days ago and have been staying at the Hand Over Fist down by the docks.

Ben-Elwyn (Christine) :

For the last three weeks you’ve been at sea sailing from Hillsfar on the Moonsea south into the Sea of Fallen stars and then west towards Westgate to seek work. You’ve been serving as a deck seamen on the Shuragh Sinak. June 27 Game Summary

The party met the first evening downstairs at the Hand Over Fist. Elden surveyed everyone on the topic of the Kobolds in the forest. The party came to an accord that they would seek out more information the next day. Perithil ducked out and had success playing cards down on the dock.

The morning of the second day the party struck out into town, splitting up to meet with both merchants in the resin market and the Mielikki clerics. One group sent to the now quiet resin market and learned of the economic importance of the resin to the city of Starmantle as well as the commercial aspects of the resin trade. The merchant they spoke with also revealed that there is at least one known resin container unaccounted for and still in the forest, potentially containing a great deal of valuable resin. The group who went to the church learned more detail on the clerics who’d been attacked in the forest including the most recent attack on the cleric Julia O’Lear and her family. Julia’s husband Sy who fled with their son gave the party details on where the family was attacked and that his wife and daughter had been taken. Jehna expressed disgust at the family taking their children into the forest. The party then reconvened and decided to head out into the Gulthmere forest to find the location the attack took place. They reached a small stream 6 miles into the forest and setup camp. Elden and Ben went into the forest to hunt dinner and happened upon a Kobold hunting a boar. The Kobold saw them and followed them back to camp. Late in the evening the party was attacked by 6 kobolds at their camp. Serena was hurt by a cup of resin which the Kobolds hurled into the fire. Jacob and Elden healed Serena. The party dispatched the kobolds and went the rest of the night without incidence.

The morning of the third day the party tracked the Kobolds from the night before finding their trails which lead into the forest. The party then returned to the camp and continued into the forest following Sy’s directions. Another 6 miles in and they crossed a second stream and came to a clearing where people had been collecting resin. After examining the area and its surroundings the party found both the missing resin container as well as evidence of humans collecting resin, a skirmish and Kobolds carrying humans away. After rekindling the fire under the resin container, the party headed off following the Kobold’s trail. After 20 minutes they found evidence of another skirmish on the trail. They continued another mile and came upon an animal hole dug in the side of a hill into which the tracks lead. Umli went into the whole and emerged in a small underground cavern containing many Kobolds and the sounds of large animal. He came crawling back out of the hole with Kobolds in tow. The party fought the Kobolds including a Kobold Chief and a large Psuedo Panther that came following Umli out of the hole until Jacob set the portal alight with lamp oil covered Kobold corpses . The Psuedo Panther attacked Umli hurting fine. The party prevailed and then moved the pile of burning corpses to descend into the hole. Inside they found an additional entrance to the underground chamber ans well as Julia and her daughter bound with a great deal of rope. They freed the women and returned outside.

June 27 Game Wrapup

Julia and her daughter Giana sit stunned and shivering against the hillside adjacent to the trail. Julia is wearing her orders typical clothes, a simple tabard, trousers and leather boots, a short cape and a symbol of a unicorn on a necklace around her neck. Her clothes are dirty and torn and her skin still shows trauma from having been bound. She has shoulder length straight brown hair with a small wooden clip holding it back on her left side. Giana is wearing a gray dress and sandals, also dirty from their ordeal. She wears her straight black hair like her mother.

Jenah tends to Giana, giving her water from her canteen. Jacob goes over to Umli and casts a healing spell on him. Kauko and Perithil cautiously crawl into the hole in the hill down to the below ground cavern. They find the rope that had been used to bind the women along with two wild pig carcasses as well as
